We've got a new summer offer for you

Scotland is often framed as a country of rational thinkers who like proof of concept. This doesn’t mean it’s a nation that can’t tell stories — the contrary. Think of all the bards and yarn-spinners who’ve come from Glasgow alone. But there’s an equally rich tradition of scientists, business leaders and philosophers who think things thorough. It’s not enough for something to exist. Glaswegians like to know the why of it, particularly: why they should listen to you.

You already know our mission at The Bell: to build up a new hub of high-quality local journalism that reflects both the Glasgow you experience every day, and digs up hidden stories you might never normally have stumbled across. We think we’ve done pretty well so far: there’s been our investigations into Glasgow’s biggest bus magnates; getting the incident scoop on the stooshie over Toshie; going deep on talking points like Castlemilk’s international battle for food, and uncovering the £30k war between a footballing charity and local Southsiders that’s set a legal precedent in Scotland.

The Easdale brothers want everyone to know they are billionaires. Are they?
Sandy and James Easdale are meant to be the sixth richest people in Scotland and their £1.4 billion fortune lends them great influence. But we struggled to make the numbers add up.

But we know Glasgow wants proof of concept. If you’re reading this, you’re one of more than 7,000 members on our free mailing list. Nearly 600 of you already pay to support the sort of in-depth journalism we’re doing in the city. We think it’s crucial that number hits 1000 by the end of the year — proof of our concept if you will.

Yet we also know sometimes people like to try before they buy; test the waters before they take the plunge. So we’re launching our brand new offer for the start of summer: get three months of The Bell for just £1 per week. That’s £4 a month in total, less than the price of a pint or two weekly coffees. After that, you can cancel — although we obviously hope you won’t.

We think this is a pretty sweet deal. It’s more than a 50% discount on our membership. You get richly reported long-form local journalism that takes time and money. We get you to give us a chance — and more motivation to keep upping our game and producing work that’ll keep you as one of The Bell’s paying supporters for the long haul.

We’d love to have you on board. To get your 50% discount, just hit the button below.
