Dear readers, today a new era has dawned, our premier has been crowned, with celebrating followers hopeful for future success and global triumph. Oh, and Spain became the men’s football world champs last night, perhaps overshadowing Andy Burnham’s coronation as the UK’s newest prime minister earlier today.
We’d love to hear how our Spanish and Argentine readers watched the game last night. It was a dull affair for most. And as much as we liked Shakira and Burna Boy’s performance, the half-time show seemed to signal an unwelcome Americanisation of football. Or maybe that’s just us.
The Bell was all over the shop at the weekend. Calum headed up to the north east for a spot of strawberry picking followed by a dip at St Cyrus, one of the best beaches on the east coast, for his money. So fine was the water that Dumpling the dog even managed her first proper swim. And so good were the strawbs that Calum declared them to be “the best fruit” he’s ever eaten. Big words, and fighting talk for fans of honey mangos. Beth went all in on Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey. “Good film, not as good as Oppenheimer” was her verdict. Robbie has had a busy few days. One stag do, two weddings and a music festival since Thursday. No funerals, thankfully.

World class performances come to Glasgow’s streets
This summer, the Merchant City Festival returns to the streets to celebrate the very best of Glasgow’s cultural scene. There’s an incredible range of work on show: from FLOCK, a participatory outdoor dance inspired by urban birds, to the inquisitive performance piece I am From Reykjavik.
As with any good celebration, you can’t forget about the food. The Place at the Table series gathers leading chefs, food writers, broadcasters and cultural figures to celebrate the city’s diverse food culture and invites you to take a front row seat.
