Preparations for tomorrow’s quiz are well underway (we hope it’s going to be a Bellter), so we won’t be bringing you your midweek long-read as usual. Rest assured, it will be back from next week.
🏊 Quango’s mask slips in the campaign to save Dennistoun’s only swimming pool
Whitehill swimming pool has had a question mark over its fate since 2019. Back then, a leaked budget proposal named the east end pool in a list of potential facilities to be permanently closed as part of budget cuts. Temporary reprieve came for locals, many of whom have been campaigning to save the pool, when funding was allocated to make essential repairs in 2022. But then, in December 2023, disaster struck. The dreaded and collapse-prone reinforced autoclave aerated concrete (RAAC) was found in the roof, and council inspections confirmed the state of the roof structure was high risk. The pool shut immediately and has remained so ever since.
