🔥 An east-west stooshie rivalling 1990s American rap has erupted in recent weeks over the Scottish government’s £5 million funding for the recovery of the fire-hit Princes Street department store in Edinburgh. In case you missed the Union Corner-inspired incident, the street has remained partially closed following a serious fire at the former Debenhams last month. News last week of ScotGov’s funding prompted Edinburgh council leader Jane Meagher to compare the £5 million figure with the £10 million given to Glasgow in the wake of the Union Corner fire, labelling the discrepancy “disappointing”. “It’s hard not to think that it might be political. If you look at where the support for the Scottish National Party lies, I think that answers your question,” Scottish Labour’s Meagher said. She also described it as a “signifier of the esteem, or the importance, that Glasgow has over Edinburgh”. Hmm, we’re not sure about that.
