Has Glasgow City Centre escaped the doom loop? Come and have your say

Up Sauchie, doon Buckie and alang Argyle. So goes the auld colloquial term for a stroll through the city’s three best-known streets.

Let’s be honest though, Buchanan Street might be in fine fettle, but the other two thoroughfares have seen better days. The ravages of fire, vacant buildings, depopulation, fragmented public transport and the general state of the high street — many problems have converged in the city centre.

But there is also much to be hopeful about. City centre population ticking upwards, bus franchising in the works, bold urban regeneration plans. And at the heart of it all, the Golden Z: a masterplan to transform the architectural, economic, and cultural heart of Glasgow to meet the needs of its citizens and make the most of its rich heritage.

Join The Bell for a live event with council leader Susan Aitken and a panel of guest speakers from the worlds of business, architecture and built heritage. We’ll ask tough questions about the state of the city and attempt to map out a positive vision for future regeneration.
