Skateboarder’s sex assault conviction brings moment of reckoning for Glasgow’s skaters
You likely didn’t see November’s news of a sinister sexual assault in Perth committed by 19-year-old Joshua Jerome on a 62-year-old blind woman. Now, The Bell can reveal that convicted Jerome was a prominent skater in Glasgow’s scene, having been sponsored by local skating apparel brand Route One and local board makers Treatment Skateboards prior to his conviction. Glasgow’s skate community has told The Bell that it prides itself on inclusivity and providing a safe environment for its members, so news of Jerome’s conviction has sparked a strong response as well as some soul searching within the city’s subculture.
Glasgow deserves great journalism. You can help make it happen.
You'are halfway there, the rest of the story is behind this paywall. Join the Bell for full access to local news that matters, just £8.99 for the first 3 months.
